A SUVOBOR VILLAGE PASSED BY THE »BENEFITS« OF CIVILISATION
Koštunici
is the first and only environmental village in Serbia. Civilisation
has not come near the natural environment of this Suvobor area
and everything is clean like it was when it was made. Koštunici
have several plants (for the making of the natural plum brandy,
apple vinegar, chips and cottage industry similar to that in Sirogojno)
have been built and their technology is based on the tradition
of people from Suvobor villages. People and nature have done their
best to ensure that there is a lot to be seen here. There are
several streams from which one can drink water, a lot of clearings
in the woods and pasture grounds with shepherd's cottages, Mokra
Pecina (Wet Cave) on Ravna Gora with its stalactites and stalagmites,
vantage point in the forest and its fauna... In the past five
years, people have done a lot to keep tourists in Koštunici.
There is a folklore_house
with weavers, knitters and embroiderers, whose handicrafts
are already being exported. There is also the Prodanovica magaza
(Prodanovic's shop), which is more than 120 years old,
a_museum_of_folklore, permanent exhibition of painter
Boa Prodanovic, a 12-sq-meter relief marking the site of
the battle of Kolubara, the room of Duke ivojin Mišic.
The Ravna Gora restaurant has recently been opened and its interior
looks is full of objects from the previous two centuries. Surrounded
by old Serbian cottages, whose number is increasing (there is
to be about twenty of them), the Milica and Pannayotis Serbian-Greek
Friendship House, or more precisely a hotel for businessmen and
tourists with 120 beds, a 200-seat conference room, sauna, swimming
pools, open-air and closed-door sports grounds, will open its
doors to visitors on St Vitus's Day next year.
MT SUVOBOR - RAVNA GORA
Mt
Suvobor is situated in the northwest of the Gornji Milanovac municipality.
Unlike Mt Rudnik, which is considered to be a gentle mountain,
Mt Suvobor's attraction is its wild beauty. Ravna Gora is a wide
plateau on Mt Suvobor, which abounds in beech woods and pasture
grounds. On the plateau, one can visit the monument to General
Draa Mihailovic, the Church of St George, mountain house
and the Babina Glava vantage point. The southern side of the plateau
offers a spectacular view of part of Serbia and eastern Bosnia.
The source of three streams – Mala Bukovaca, Grab and Ponor
– and two caves – Suva Pecina (Dry Cave) and Mokra
Pecina (Wet Cave) are also situated on Ravna Gora. Mt Suvobor
and Ravna Gora are famous historical places – the former
is known for the World War I Battle of Kolubara and the latter
for the World War II Ravna Gora Movement of General Draa
Mihailovic.
