TAKOVO 185 YEARS AGO
Although it is not the oldest place
in the municipality, Takovo has numerous attractions that are
not just of local interest for the municipality of Gornji Milanovac.
This is the place where the Second
Serbian Insurrection started under the flag of Miloš Obrenovic.
A withered bush, remnant of the oak under which Miloš exclaimed
»Here I come, here you are...«, monument to the 1887 Insurrection,
bronze casting of the central detail from Paja Jovanovic's picture
»The Takovo Insurrection«, late 18th century log-built church
where the rebels received Communion from Archpriest Melentije
Pavlovic, and finally the Museum of the Second Serbian Insurrection,
located at the school building given to Takovo by King Aleksandar
of the Obrenovic Dynasty, commemorate this event, which took place
185 years ago.
SAVINAC CHURCH HOLDS THE REMAINS OF
MINA VUKOMANOVIC-KARADIC
Savinac is a part of the Šarani
village, just four kilometers away from Takovo. According to legend,
St Sava once rode across that site, and the trace of his horse's
hoof is still visible in the stone. Centuries later, in 1819,
Prince Miloš built his first endowment, a church, in the
memory of his wife, Princess Ljubica. It is no accident that Vuk
Stefanovic Karadic's daughter, Mina, an artist, poet and
translator, was buried in the Savinac Church. Namely, she was
married to university professor Aleksa Vukomanovic, who was a
member of the Princess Ljubica's family. The old gazebo, built
in Miloš's time, and two mineral water springs in the River
Dicina riverbed, Svetinja and Mlacac, are some of the attractions
of Savinac. If we add that woody slopes stretch everywhere around
this settlement and that there is plenty of sunshine and shade,
nothing will be left out from the story about Savinac.
